LIGHT

The fern thrives in dappled shade, although it can be acclimated to more light. Keep it out of direct, bright sunlight, which can scorch the foliage.

WATER

Keeping an fern hydrated takes a little effort, as this plant thrives on humidity. Indoor growing conditions can often be too dry, especially during the winter heating season. Mist the plant daily, focusing on the arching stems. If the plant appears to be turning brown and droopy, it likely needs more water.

Keep soil moist, and water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Warmer, humid air, and daily misting will help it thrive.

HUMIDITY

The fern prefers a humid environment. Mist daily to increase humidity levels and replicate the tropical environment it thrives in.

TEMPERATURE

Average indoor temperatures of 18-26°C are best for a fern.

FOOD

During spring and summer, feed once a month with a general houseplant food. No feeding is necessary during the winter when plant growth naturally slows.

TOXICITY

A fern is not considered toxic to humans and pets if ingested.

ADDITIONAL CARE

If your asparagus fern is turning brown and looks like it's drying out, it could be that you have under-watered it. Cut off the brown, dried sections, and try watering more often.
