The Lipstick Plant loves bright light. The more light it receives, the more flowers it produces. Avoid too much direct light as this may scorch the leaves.
It's time to water when the top couple of inches of soil is dry. Your plant will let you know it's thirsty as its leaves will droop. Avoid overwatering as this can cause root rot and yellowing leaves. Watering with luke warm water is a great way to help your plant feel at home!
Your Lipstick Plant prefers a humid environment. Mist daily to increase humidity levels and replicate the tropical environment it naturally grows in.
Average indoor temperatures of 21-27°C are best for a Lipstick Plant.
During spring and summer, feed once a month with a general houseplant food. No feeding is necessary during the winter when plant growth naturally slows.
Lipstick Plants are non-toxic to humans and pets.
Keeping your plant healthy and happy will encourage your plant to shoot out flowers. You will notice that it is these flowers that give the Lipstick Plant it's name - they look like little red lipstick tubes. Many can come out in a bunch and they look very striking against the deep green curly leaves, again a reason for the 'Twisted' in the name. Non-twisted plants have straighter leaves.
